Osteopathy

Imagine a car that has one of its front wheels not quite pointing straight. It may run well for a while, but after a few thousand miles, the tyre will wear out. You can apply this example to the human body, which is why it is so important to keep the body in good balance. Osteopaths use a wide range of techniques, including massage and joint mobilization and this breadth of approach allows us to focus on every patient’s precise needs.

Benefits

  • Usually get an appointment within 24-48 hrs
  • Pain relief, increased mobility and flexibility
  • Treat many conditions besides back pain, neck ache and shoulder problems.
  • Maintain an active lifestyle by keeping any potential problems at bay.
  • Treat people of any age from the elderly to the newborn and from pregnant women to sports people.

We know that you care a great deal about your health and well-being.  Aches and pains of the muscles, joints, back and neck can have a very negative effect on how you feel – not just physically, but mentally too….and it’s NOT just a sign of age!

It is easy to overdo things, whether by gardening, playing sport or generally just being very, very busy. We would like to be your first port of call when you have any aches and pains which need sorting out.

Conditions we treat

Although osteopaths treat many conditions, most people think of us as ‘back specialists’. Back pain is what many osteopaths treat a lot of the time but we also treat arthritic pain, muscle spasms, neck ache, frozen shoulders, joint pains, whiplash, wrist and hand ailments, minor sports injuries and many more.

Osteopathic treatment not only targets pain symptoms but also treats the parts of the body that have caused the symptoms. Osteopaths have a holistic approach and believe that your whole body will work well if your body is in good structural balance.

We put our success down to our friendly, approachable service and professional levels of patient care. By choosing to visit us, you can benefit from our commitment to high quality care, the right team of experts and good old fashioned customer values. More importantly, we know our limitations. If we feel that treatment is not appropriate, we will refer you to your GP for further investigation.

About the Osteopaths

Stuart Bentley, Annette Hastie and Liz Harvey graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Osteopathy from the British School of Osteopathy.  To qualify, an osteopath must study for four to five years for an undergraduate degree. This is similar to a medical degree, with more emphasis on anatomy and musculoskeletal medicine and includes more than 1,000 hours of training in osteopathic techniques. By law, osteopaths must register with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). It is an offence for anyone to call themselves an osteopath if they are not registered. The British Medical Association’s guidance for general practitioners states that doctors can safely refer patients to osteopaths.
